Events at The Club

The Club has always put a great effort into running events and activities for members. Over the years, some fade away and new ones come into being so we can’t give you a definitive list, but here are some things to look out for. Also, it’s always worth keeping an eye out for posters and checking the noticeboard in the foyer to see what’s coming up.

January

Childrens Pantomime

Got young children or grandchildren? Then keep an eye out for the Pantomime Trip.

Notices go up in December.

So get your tickets early.

Subs

January is when subscriptions become due. Lists are displayed of times and dates on which you can pay. Please bring in your green membership wallet (we don’t need your cards).

March

Dinner and Dance

The annual Dinner and Dance is normally the first Friday of March (at an external venue) and features three course meal with wine, tea/coffee, live music, a disco and a free bottle draw.

Charity Cheque Presentation

We have a proud history of raising money for worthy local causes and this is usually presented on a Sunday lunchtime in March.

Club AGM & Elections

The AGM is your chance to view the Club’s audited accounts and ask any questions. Members may submit proposals for discussion at the meeting. The two weeks following see the elections for Officers and Committee members.

July

A day at the Races

If you’re a fan of the horses, keep an eye out for a trip to a major racecourse such as Ascot or Goodwood.

August

Christmas Competitions
Sign Up.

September

Marrow Competition.

Another popular favourite is the Marrow Competition. Prizes for heaviest marrows, pumkins, onions and tomatoes, longest runner beans, best jams and chutneys as well as baking challenges that vary yearly.

October

Wincanton Races

October sees another race trip, this time to the more intimate surroundings of Wincanton. This trip usually seems to sell out in minutes though, so keep an eye and an ear out for news of booking opportunities!

December

Charity Month.

All manner of draws and competitions to raise money for our chosen charites.

Over 60's Snooker.

Played over two mornings/lunchtime in mid December. Singles and doubles competitions.

Finals Night.

Normally the last Friday before Christmas. The last round of all Christmas competitions for darts, snooker, billiards, dominoes, crib and poker.

Childrens Christmas Party.

There’s always plenty going on in December with various charity fundraisers etc. Look out for a Christmas party for the younger children.

Grand Christmas Draw.

Our Christmas Draw is one of the largest you will see with hundreds of prizes worth thousands of pounds each year. Tickets are on sale all year round.

Sloe Gin Competition.

(usually on the Sunday before Christmas is a favourite with all the entries going on sale (after judging) with the money raised going into the charity fund.

Grand Boxing Day Auction.

The Grand Boxing Day Auction is our biggest charity fundraiser. Held at lunchtime, we ask members and local businesses to donate items that can be auctioned. Whilst people often pay above what they actually bid to benefit the charities, it is also possible to bag some great bargains if you’re lucky. Bring your wallet!

New Years Eve Party.

And of course, we finish off the year with the New Year’s Eve Party with a 1am bar and a disco, stopping just before midnight see watch and listen to Big Ben on the big screen as the moment approaches.
