The Club has always put a great effort into running events and activities for members. Over the years, some fade away and new ones come into being so we can’t give you a definitive list,
but here are some things to look out for. Also, it’s always worth keeping an eye out for posters and checking the noticeboard in the foyer to see what’s coming up.
January is when subscriptions become due. Lists are displayed of times and dates on which you can pay. Please bring in your green membership wallet (we don’t need your cards).
The AGM is your chance to view the Club’s accounts and ask any questions. Members may submit proposals for discussion at the meeting. The two weeks following see the elections for Officers and Committee members.
Normally around 40 prizes, each consisting of one or more Easter Eggs with any profits going into the charity pot. Drawn on the Sunday before Easter.
Snooker competition against Southbourne Ex-Servicemen’s Club with home and away legs. The social side is as much a part of the event as the snooker!
If you’re a fan of the horses, keep an eye out for a trip to a major racecourse such as Ascot or Goodwood.
Although disrupted in recent years by Covid-19, look out for the sheets to sign up for the Christmas Competitions. Events held include snooker, billiards, darts, dominoes and cribbage.
Another popular favourite is the Marrow Competition. Prizes for heaviest marrows, pumkins, onions and tomatoes, longest runner beans, best jams and chutneys as well as baking challenges that vary yearly.
October sees another race trip, this time to the more intimate surroundings of Wincanton. This trip usually seems to sell out in minutes though, so keep an eye and an ear out for news of booking opportunities!

Played over two mornings/lunchtimes in mid December. Singles and doubles competitions.
Our Christmas Draw is one of the largest you will see with hundreds of prizes worth thousands of pounds each year. Tickets are on sale all year round.
(usually on the Sunday before Christmas is a favourite with all the entries going on sale (after judging) with the money raised going into the charity fund.
The Grand Boxing Day Auction is our biggest charity fundraiser. Held at lunchtime, we ask members and local businesses to donate items that can be auctioned. Whilst people often pay above what they actually bid to benefit the charities, it is also possible to bag some great bargains if you’re lucky. Bring your wallet!
And of course, we finish off the year with the New Year’s Eve Party with a 1am bar and a disco, stopping just before midnight see watch and listen to Big Ben on the big screen as the moment approaches.
